What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is one of the most present cannabinoids in marijuana plants. Furthermore, unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not psychoactive and its side effects are minimal. Therefore, it is usually used therapeutically as anxiolytic, antipsychotic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and to treat complex diseases such as epilepsy. Recently (November 2017), it has been declared as "relatively safe and non-addictive" by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Medical properties of CBD - Effects and benefits of CBD
The CBD is currently the cannabinoid with major importance in the therapeutic field because it acts strongly on the nervous system without having psychoactive properties. Furthermore, it modulates the effect of the rest of the cannabinoids, acting as a mattress and eliminating the most undesirable effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) such as anxiety or tachycardias. Various studies, certified by medical specialists and laboratory analysis, passed on its therapeutic benefits due to its anxiolytic, analgesic, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antipsychotic and anti-rheumatic properties. Moreover, according to some research it is also suitable for treating epilepsy and relieving chronic pain. These factors have led to CBD becoming one of the most important arguments for the legalization of medical marijuana in many countries.
Uses of CBD
The origin of CBD strains
At the beginning of the nineteenth century there was a pioneer and important research that led to the first discoveries and advances about this cannabinoid predominant in cannabis plants. A team of researchers from the Department of Chemistry of the University of Illinois, managed to isolate CBD from a marijuana extract for the first time. This discovery was detailed in 1939 by Roger Adams.
In 1963, Lumir Hanus and Raphael Mechoulam, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, carried out a new study, much more extensive and detailed, in which was revelated the chemical structure of the CBD. In 1964 Raphael Mechoulam, along with his colleague Yechiel Gaoni, managed to discover and isolate for the first time the most famous component of marijuana: THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) thanks to this previous study.
Advances have continued to happen since this great discovery, expanding the research and testing in the medical field. These experiments showed that it was possible to reduce, block or improve symptoms of different disorders such as insomnia and epilepsy among others, after administering this compound (CBD). These trials get experts to consider the therapeutic potential of marijuana. In 1988 the endocannabinoid system of the human body is discovered extending these areas of study.
In 1998 the Ministry of the Interior issued a license to the British pharmaceutical company GW Pharmaceuticals, founded by Dr. Geoffrey Guy, to initiate research into the use of cannabis as a medicine.
From the discovery of CBD to the present day, the benefits it can bring are still being studied and deepened. This had a direct impact in cannabis legislation, increasing the number of countries allowing its use and consumption.
Different ratios in CBD strains
Characterizes strains containing a high level of THC. These strains are euphoric, happy and tend to stimulate laughter.
The possible side effects of high THC content are paranoia, anxiety and tachycardia.
Refers to strains with which you can feel the maximum level of THC but the presence of CBD will produce a more relaxing effect.
In this case the side effects are minor as it reduces the risk of anxiety, tachycardia or paranoia.
It contains the same proportion of CBD and THC. It is still psychoactive.
These cannabis strains provide a relaxing effect but evolve to a slightly euphoric and calm mood.
This 1:1 ratio has medicinal properties for a wide range of disorders such as insomnia, fibromyalgia, autism, etc...
Its side effects are practically non-existent.
It contains twice as much CBD as THC and is moderately psychoactive.
This ratio is ideal for sensitive patients, or those who prefer not to take drugs. Its high concentration of CBD will prevent them from feeling the effects of THC.
It produces an overall improvement in mood and provides high therapeutic value in the treatment of many disorders such as epilepsy.
It has no side effects.
Our CBD seeds
In 2017 Sweet Seeds® offered the first two varieties of its medicinal line after several crosses with different specimens containing a high percentage of CBD with respect to the THC level: the Sweet Nurse Auto CBD® (SWS59) and the S.A.D. Sweet Afgani Delicious CBD® (SWS60).
The S.A.D. CBD® is an Indica dominant strain very complex, musky and dense aromas with a THC:CBD ratio between 1:1 and 1:3. It is easy to cultivate for novice gardeners thanks to its great hybrid vigour and its explosive flowering. The highlights consist of a large central bud covered by trichomes. It is also perfect for extractions or cannabis cooking (or with a simple fresh fruit juice) thanks to its many medicinal properties and its high percentages of CBD. Its effect is subtle but noticeable if you don’t consume cannabis regularly. It is a great choice to relax the body or relieve muscle tension.
The Sweet Nurse Auto CBD®, an Indica strain, has a THC:CBD ratio of between 1:1 and 1:2. The analysis detect a THC rate between 5%-10% and CBD rate between 10%-16%. The effects of this genetics are a quiet mood, well-being and a light and relaxed mental effect, but very creative. It has a sweet and fruity aroma. This is a very vigorous plant and it is easy to get medium-high sized plants in just two months from germination.
Sweet Pure CBD®
This is the first "pure CBD" strain from the Sweet Seeds® seed bank, with very low levels of THC, generally below 1%, and high levels of Cannabidiol (CBD). It was specially designed to satisfy therapeutic cannabis users who do not wish to experience the psychotropic effects of THC.
The Sweet Pure CBD® (SWS65) THC:CBD ratio is about 1:15-1:20, with THC levels between 0.4-1% and CBD levels between 8-15%. These extremely low levels of THC and high levels of CBD turn our Sweet Pure CBD® into a marijuana plant with imperceptible psychotropic effects. The high levels of CBD allow therapeutic cannabis users a better use of the medicinal properties of CBD.
This variety is the result of two generations of self-pollination (S2) of a CBD-rich clone with Diesel family ancestors. The aroma of this variety is sweet and fruity, with citrus tones of tangerine and light fresh cypress brushstrokes. The structure of the plant is of an Indica-Sativa hybrid with a Sativa predominance.
